Weekly Photo Challenge: Serene

Old Westbury Gardens in Old Westbury, NY. Photo by Alyson Goodman.

After a rather rough week, I’m really in need of a serene scene. My dog of 12 years passed away last Sunday and it has been tough knowing that she’ll never be there again to greet me when I walk in the door, to comfort me when I had a bad day and just to sit on the couch with. She was sick so I’m glad to know that she is no longer suffering, but it still hurts.

With the theme for the weekly photo challenge being serene, I wanted to share one of my favorite photos. For some reason when I visit any garden, I like to take photos of the benches for some reason. I go for the flowers, but the benches always seem to capture my attention. While wandering around Old Westbury Gardens one day, this view stood out to me and I had to photograph it. It is the kind of photo I just want to climb into and sit on that bench reading a book, looking out at the pond and spend the day relaxing.

  1. Our pets are definitely family members Alyson, and when they leave us it’s terribly painful. Remember her fondly and eventually you’ll smile and think of her without pain. Beautiful scene for the week.

  2. I am sorry for you loss. Our family has lost two beloved dogs over the past 3 years. At the insistence of my youngest child, we are finding love with a new dog, but there are still moments where the hole that the one’s prior have left. I wish you much peace with the memories you forged with your pet. I love this idea of noticing the benches in places that we frequent. This is a beautiful capture.
